Herb Garden Plant

Beginner herb gardeners can find the thought of having an herb garden a daunting one. This is especially true for those who haven't done any kind of gardening at all. In fact, most beginner gardeners stop their gardening plans because they see it as too big a challenge. In order to get their feet wet, and get used to gardening, beginners can choose to have a one herb garden plant.

Having just one herb garden plant to start with can help you decide whether or not you'd like having a full blown herb garden. Chances are, after a few weeks of having a plant, you will end up getting more. This is because herb gardening is pretty easy and quite enjoyable. Not to mention, you will be able to use these herbs for cooking and around your home!

Choose an herb garden plant that is pretty easy to grow. This will encourage you to grow other plants! Also try using one that you will use around your home so that you can see the benefits of keeping herbs. That way you will know if it truly is useful to you and your lifestyle. You can find out which ones grow easily and quickly from your local gardening stores. Off hand, though, mint is usually extremely easy to grow, and most beginner herb gardeners will meet success with mint.

Another option for beginners is having an herb garden plant with several other herb plants all in one pot. Investing in a large pot, and growing multiple herbs can simulate the work of what it would be like to plant herbs in a garden. You can choose to have a large round pot, or a long rectangular pot, like window containers.

Having about four plants in one pot is a pretty good number. This gives each plant room to grow, though it should be noted that after a while plants will get too large for the pot and will have to be replanted in other pots or into the ground. By this time, however, you should be able to tell if herb gardening is for you.

When planting all in one pot, choose plants that complement each other in terms of how they look. For example, large flat basil leaves will look odd next to thin and needle like dill. The dill will end up looking sickly next to the basil, and as a result the herb garden plants in the pot will not look very nice, and this could be discouraging. If you choose to grow an herb garden plant series all in one pot, try to make it decorative. Herb plants can also serve as decoration in your home, especially the ones that flower. You can have a tiny garden that helps season your dishes, and adds color to your environment too!
